Hello, everyone.  Thank you for visiting the MAGC website.

As president, webmaster and newsletter editor for MAGC, I can
say that receiving an informative newsletter (
The Latest Dirt from
Morris Area Garden Club)
and hearing the wonderful speakers
might be reason enough to join.  Beyond that you have the
opportunity to mingle with kindred spirits and share your garden
dreams, ambitions, mistakes and successes. Often the things
we learn from fellow gardeners are the most valuable lessons of
all!  The monthly programs help us keep updated on topics that
club members tell us they are interested in.

The Latest Dirt will be available only to paid MAGC members, so
if you want to receive a newsletter that is jam-packed with all
kinds of fun and helpful information, you'll need to become a
member of MAGC.  Check below to review a sample.

There are many benefits to membership. We value each and
every member.  Please join us for another year of fun, fellowship,
learning, and GARDENING. Take a look at the upcoming events
page for our schedule. Now, fill out that form and write that check!
You don't want to miss a thing!

Dust your houseplants. Don’t feel obliged to
take a feather duster to your philodendron
every time you wipe down the TV screen, but
most houseplants do benefit (and breathe
easier) from having their leaves cleaned
once or twice a year. The quickest way: Pop
them under a soft shower, or spray them
gently with the garden hose.
All About MAGC
Ginny and Tom Bellamy moved to Morris from Frankfort where they were very
active in the Frankfort Garden Club.  After they built their home in Morris and
started their landscaping, Ginny began looking for a local garden club, which
she didn't find.

She soon joined the Grundy County Historical Society, Morris Watercolor Guild,
Nettle Creek Watershed Conservancy, became involved in several local
government and civic projects, and has since become a Master Gardener.  But,
she still felt the need for a local garden club.  So, she asked around to many of
her friends to see if anyone else would be interested.

Ginny set up the first meeting in April of 2005 and thirty people showing interest
in a garden club showed up to discuss the prospective club.  Officers were
elected, (with Ginny becoming our first president),  the title of Morris Area Garden
Club was decided upon, by-laws were established and adopted, and the club
was officially formed.  Today, MAGC has 70 active members.

MAGC helps maintain the gardens at the Morris Area Public Library and the
Historical Society's information Caboose  and sponsors the annual garden walk,
garden tea and flower show.  We've adopted a stretch of highway on Rt. 47
between Airport Rd. and Saratoga School.  The City of Morris has asked that
MAGC design and maintain an entry garden to one or more of the city parks,
which is still in development.  We support the University of Illinois Extension -
Grundy County and WE CARE of Grundy County.  We've established and
awarded our very first scholarship for a 2009 graduating high school senior that
has chosen a career in the field of horticulture/agriculture.  We have applied for
NFP.

Since that first meeting, men and women, whose gardening experience range
from novice to advanced, come to learn more about a variety of subjects and we
have four Master Gardeners within the group eager to help you with your
gardening questions.  So, you need not possess the proverbial "green thumb" to
join.  Regardless of experience, we all have a love of gardening and look forward
to sharing it with you and encourage you to come to a meeting to find out more
and see what we’re all about.

Each month we have a short business meeting, followed by  a great program
lead by gardening, floral, bird, butterfly, water garden, etc. experts when you'll
hear gardener- friendly advice on a variety of subjects, including nature, the
environment, horticulture, flower arranging, and planning, planting and
maintaining your garden.  Field trips to outstanding gardens, nurseries and/or
members' private gardens occur from May through August.

We have both male and female members, so spouses and/or significant others,
a parent/older child or a sibling are welcome.   They take advantage of the family
rate.

Annual membership dues are only $20.00 for a single membership and $25.00
for a couple and are due in January of each year.  Dues are pro-rated in October.

A Morris residency is not a requirement.

Membership includes:
